It was a Sad Day on The North Bay Apprentice!

Hello all you N-BAFs,

Since ths IS a blog - an online diary - I thought I would share how I am feeling at the moment.

Yesterday was the hardest boardroom to date. The person that got fired was pretty torn up about it and, on my way home, I came to a realization. I began this show to help out an entrepreneur. And what I realized is that, although in the end I may help ONE person, I will have HURT 8 other people in the process. I never thought of it that way before - until now.

As well, because of the problems I'm having with Ted McKeown of NBTV, it would be really easy for me to just say "the heck with it" and not do a second season. Then, I see posts on the fansite in support of the show and it makes me feel good that maybe the show IS making a difference.

And wouldn't not doing a second season be like letting Ted win since he's working a lot harder to sabatoge the show than he ever did filming it?

These questions weigh heavily on my mind and will definitely influence whether or not I decide to do a second season.

Tell me what you think, folks?

Hi Randy,

This is your right hand gal ... Kim, and I would be very disappointed if there wasn't a second season!!! So many people waste time in believing in things that don't relate to them, however they can relate to something that's happening in the community, and that's definately worth more than the crap that scam the hearts & souls of our beloved North Bay semaritans. I know it isn't easy but at the same time you have to learn how to trust others to do what they do best and expect trust in return to make the best decision. You and I have discussed the possibilities and how we could make this work, but if you choose not to continue it then I would like to continue the second season on your behalf. But, in reality, this is your show and you should be the one. Why don't you tell me what you think about that.

Hi Randy,

I think since you've been having a hard time lately, you are looking at the worst of things.
I don't think you hurt the 8 people you fired. They could feel upset and hurt by not winning the show, but you HAVE helped them. All of these contestants now have their names out there. We now know what they want to do, and if they open their businesses we will be their first clients. We will all watch for them in the future. I am sure they all had a great experience on the show, and that is thanks to you.

You have also helped countless other people in small ways that I don't think you realise. Myself for instance, I am a "stay at home mom" or as I like to call it, a household engineer, hehe,,,,,,,, I get bored, and feel closed in and stuck and home often. (but I wouldn't change the opportunity to raise my children myself for the world) Making the fansite has been a BLAST for me and has given me something different to do other than the same old thing every day. I have gotten to know alot of the contestants and hopefully helped other people get to know them as well.

All the businesses that you have your tasks on are getting their names out there also, not to mention your great judges, and their own businesses.

I think it's natural to feel bad if you have to be the one to fire somebody,(and deal with Ted's crap) but you need to look at the good things you have done, and please please please do a second season!!

Hey Randy,

I can't speak for any of the other contestants, but as for myself I have to tell you that you are so wrong.

The North Bay Apprentice is a game where one, and only one person can win. We all knew this going in and while we all hoped to be that one person, we also knew that it wasn't going to work out for all the rest.

This does not mean that you have hurt us. You have had some hard decisions to make and you have made them to the best of your ability. I can accept that, and I think the rest of us can as well. This doesn't mean we are not disappointed, of course we are! But, if only one person can win, then the rest of us have to lose. That's the way the world works.

And what's all this BS about you only being able to help one person? Just being part of this experience has enriched my life and my business immeasureably! I may not have gone away with the prize but it doesn't mean I didn't leave with something valuable.

As for the unfortunate situation with Mr. McKeown, well, I think mistakes were made on both sides, and I also think that it's time to put it behind you, both of you. I don't know what Mr. McKeown has been up to lately but he has absolutely no justification to "sabotage" anything beyond the time when he was still involved in the project. And little justification to interfere with anything before that, as far as I'm concerned.

If Mr. McKeown insists on interfering with the show then I would urge you, Randy, to deal with him as briefly and as professionally as possible and then forget him. You cannot control what he does, but you can control what you do and by letting him influence your thoughts and feelings about the show, you are granting him much more power than he actually has.

You are asking yourself the wrong questions Randy. Don't think about whether or not you're hurting people, ask yourself how you are helping. I believe everyone benefits, the contestants, the judges, the viewers and the community.
Don't start thinking "I should do a second season, that'll show Ted!"
Do a second season because it's something you believe in and that you enjoy doing.

So, if you want my opinion, and you're going to get it even if you don't, I think the show is worth a second season. It can only get better as everyone gains experience and learns from past mistakes. You've worked long and hard to put this together and, as I said before, if you believe in it and enjoy doing it, I think it would be a waste of your time and talent not to continue.

Kim, Lou and Lora,

Thanks for the much needed wake up call. I was hoping I was helping other people as well as the winner. But sometimes you need to hear it from others to know you're appreciated.

I can't disagree with anything you've said (there's a first, huh?)

Guess I was just having a pity party and you were all invited.

On a happier note, I intend to look into government grants for projects like this so that if I DO do (oops, did I just say DOO-DOO?)
second season, maybe there will be a cash reward for the winner and the volunteers could get paid as well.

Wouldn't that be awesome?

Regardless, the pity party is OVER and the kid is back (corny jokes and all) ;-)

Randy,
this blog seems like an awful ploy for people to compliment you. In reality, the show isn't very good. Also, it seems like you're making up the rules as you go along. Why would you start up show where the winner basically gets nothing because you failed to plan and get grants ahead of time.
It seems like you do not have good business practice Randy.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your input.

If you've watched the Apprentice with Donald Trump, you'll know that I am following the same rules that show does - not making them up as I go along.

In fact, Trump has fired someone before, not because they deserved it, but simply because they interrupted him in the boardroom - something I would never do.

I strongly object to your claim that the prizes are worth nothing. I worked very hard to get those prizes whose value approaches $10,000 for the winner.

As for the show itself, I and a lot of other people happen to think it is VERY good, if not in quality, then in content.

Trump's Apprentice is one of the highest-rated shows in the world. Yet of course there are people who love to criticise it. So I can expect no less.

Just as you have a right to your opinion, you also have the right to not watch the show if you don't like it.

Respectfully,

Randy Ruggles

Randy,

I will choose not to watch it, as do most of the population of North Bay.

Tim,

If you hate the show so much, why are you wasting your time on here complaining about it?
I think you need a hobby

I can only speak for myself, as anyone can, and I for one am entirely excited and inspired by the work that has gone into this show. It opens so many doors and unveils the unlimited potential that lives in North Bay. People who criticise the show, and the people involved, without being constructive DO NOT deserve our attention. Thank you again Randy for openning up this avenue and giving back to the community.
